My first Get Out!
30 Day CrossFit Body Transformation Challenge
My husband does CrossFit. Loves it with a passion. Me? I think it’s really intense and scary.
My husband would like us all to eat paleo. I said when he was doing all the meal planning, food shopping and cooking, he could knock himself out. And what is paleo, exactly?
Then one day he came home from his CrossFit box (did you know that is what CrossFitters call their gym? Box?) and says ‘I’m doing a 30 Day Body Transformation Challenge. I think you should do it too.’ Hmm.
When I could procrastinate no longer, I had a look through the information to see what was involved.
- Training at the CrossFit gym, sorry Box, for a month, at least 4 sessions per week
- Strict nutrient-dense food-matched and portioned eating plan, paleo based clean eating
Initially, my thoughts were:
CrossFit? I struggle to push my coconut smooze out of it’s little pyramid pouch, how the hell am I going to tackle pull ups and power cleans?
And the food, well, it meant no alcohol, no sugar, no coffee, no chocolate, no processed foods for the entire month. No coffee! For someone like me, this would be harder than a hang cluster climb (look it up).
But in the spirit of Training for Chocolate I took a deep breath and said ‘why not?’. And here we are now, on the eve of the challenge. I decided to set myself three goals for the month:
- Curb my sugar addiction, it is seriously out of control
- Put myself out of my comfort zone with training, try all new things thrown at me
- Lose 1kg of body fat (preferably from my abdominal area, not my boobs thanks very much)
So, I have my goals.
I have my Body Metrix fat report.
I have my meal plan. (One snack per day? I usually have one per hour. Yikes.)
I have the training session timetable.
And I’m nervous. I have never done any kind of CrossFit training, and it really frightens me. I have never gone without sugar for more than an hour or two. Seriously. I have never gone without alcohol for a week (umm actually never for more than a couple of nights, shhhh, don’t tell anyone). And did I mention no chocolate?
The word ‘challenge’ is a good one. It means it’s supposed to be hard, right?
FYI the 30 Day Challenge was put together by CrossFit Athletic (they have 3 gyms, one in Brookvale, one in Mona Vale and one in the City, Sydney) and Food to Nourish, a Sydney-based health food company, founded by nutritionist extraordinaire, Danielle Minnebo.
