Exciting news for those of us who live on Sydney’s Northern Beaches… Scenic Cycle Manly is opening its doors next Monday yippee.
Scenic Cycle Manly is a spin studio with a difference
When you book your bike at a Scenic Cycle class, you’re not just booking a deliciously intense sweaty workout, you’re buying a ticket to ride some of the greatest cycling routes on the planet.
Because at Scenic Cycle, you’re transported to these amazing destinations via the mammoth screens in the spin room. From the French Alps to San Francisco, via Hawaii and Hong Kong.
The screens, projecting videos shot by Tom Sproats, the founder of Scenic Cycle, don’t just transport you elsewhere, they motivate you to push harder up that hill. And maybe distract you a little from the physical effort too 😉
Some of the classes include multiple ‘destinations’ in a World Tour. Others are geography-specific (Whistler, anyone?), and some are classified by the music played (for example 90s House, Rhianna vs Jay-Z or Michael Jackson Beats). Whatever you choose, you know you’re in for a fun ride.
But the screens and the pumping tunes aren’t the only draw cards for a class at Scenic Cycle.
Scenic Cycle Manly is bound to be something special, if their CBD venue is anything to go by.
Plus there are two types of bikes you can choose when you book in. A regular bike (latest fancy models, naturally, that are both slick and comfy) or the super clever SCX bikes that track your power wattage, average RPM and energy expended during the class. These bikes keep you honest, that’s for sure.
If you like numbers, then the SCX bikes are for you. You can track how you improve over time. Awesome. And maybe have a little comp going with a training buddy…
Don’t be surprised if you get a little arm action too, because there are weights for some upper body exercises that the instructor will take you through – it’s not just your legs that get the workout.
In the Red Zone
Finally, one of my fave features of a Scenic Cycle class is the unique Red Zone that rounds off the session. I asked Tom why they incorporate this special moment into each class, and why it’s so important:
‘Everyone concentrates so much on the physical that we sometimes forget to train the most important muscle of the body, the brain. The Red Zone is a work phase that we at Scenic Cycle created to give our riders a sense of escape and freedom, so they can leave the class refreshed and over flowing with endorphins.
We do our Red Zone in the pitch dark, turn the screens off and encourage our riders to embrace our Red Zone motto “Work the Body, Relax the Mind”.
You can tell I love Scenic Cycle, can’t you?!
It’s so exciting to have a world-class spin studio right here in Manly, so if you’re a local, it’s an absolute workout MUST.
I’ll be there for doors opening at 6am on Monday, come and join me. I promise the staff will welcome you in with a big friendly smile whether you’re a seasoned road rider, or a complete newcomer.
They currently offer 2 morning and 2 evening classes (although in time there’ll be 8 classes per day). You can find out more here; get yourself an intro package or Scenic ‘Series’ pack of rides. There are no expiry dates (woohoo), so book yourself in.
You’ll come out of that Red Zone feeling like the King – or Queen – of the mountains.
