Had I known a year ago, when ClassPass asked me to trial their product, what an amazing 12 months that would have provided, it wouldn’t have just been a yes. It would have been a HELL YEAH!
Already firmly established in the USA and UK, ClassPass launched in Australia last October and has been growing at a rate of knots ever since.
There are now almost a thousand studios on the ClassPass books to choose from across 5 Aussie cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) and in Sydney alone this month more than 31,000 class reservations have been made (even more in Melbourne).
What is ClassPass?
If you’re not entirely clear on what a ClassPass is, here’s the lowdown:
- Your ClassPass is one monthly membership to all the best gyms and studios in town
- You book in to classes online, or via the easy-to-use App on your phone
- You can search by class type, start time, geography, how you want to feel or even on recommendations made just for you based on what you’ve booked and loved in the past
- If you’re travelling to the US or London, you can even use your ClassPass to check out what our American and British cousins are doing to get sweaty, as it works in all the 39 cities that ClassPass operates in
- There are no contracts so you can just pay by the month, change the level of membership as you desire, it’s all too easy
There are now two types of ClassPass available.
The one I have is the ‘Unlimited’ package. It’s $99 a month and I can go to as many classes as I like in that month, with a max of 3 visits per studio.
So that means I can use my ClassPass for some high intensity cardio workouts, like the Afterburn class at 38X Fitness or CREW Row Studio and then treat my muscles to some nice yin yoga and stretching at the little slices of heaven that are Humming Puppy and Urban Yoga.
I can try things I’ve never done before, like hot yoga, reformer pilates or a barre class, and keep returning to workouts that I’ve loved for a while, like spin at Scenic Cycle. I’ve even hired a bike to cruise alongside the ocean at Manly.
I still have a list as long as my arm of things I want to try out, like aerial yoga, meditation, running club and a beachside bootcamp. So many workouts, so little time!
Maybe you’re into dance or martial arts?
CrossFit or swimming?
Indoor rock-climbing or golf?
You can also just book an hour in a gym to do weights, or use the cardio machines by yourself.
During each month, you can visit one studio a maximum of three times. If you totally and utterly fall in love with a particular class and can’t get enough of it, you can actually purchase add-on classes at exclusive ClassPass rates, so you can visit more often.
I haven’t had to do that as I just mix it up a bit, which is good for the body anyway, keeps it guessing. And working! Thanks ClassPass 😉
If you want to test it out a little first or don’t think you’d use a ClassPass that much, there’s the ‘Base’ package. This is just $60 a month for 5 classes (with a max visit per studio of 2). That works out as only $12 per class, which is great value too.
If you sign up using this link you can actually get your first month on Base for only $19. That’s a class for the same price as a cup of coffee!
No brainer, give it a go. My buddies at ClassPass will also throw in a free ClassPass merchandise pack, woop woop.
It’s been such a fun year with ClassPass. A year of new friendships, new workouts, discovering new studios (and nearby cafes!) and a whole lot of sweating and stretching.
It’s completely changed the way I workout, and given me enough variety that I don’t lose motivation to train. At the same time, it’s helped me to recharge and practice some self care that I would never have had the discipline to keep up by myself.
Want to give it a go too?
