I’m having so much fun with my fitness this month. Why? Because I’m trialling a month’s membership with ClassPass.
‘What’s ClassPass?’ I hear you ask…. Well it’s a monthly membership to a whole bunch of boutique gyms and studios. So you pay a monthly fee but instead of being limited to one venue, as most traditional gym memberships work, you get to choose where to work out from their long list of gyms, yoga studios, clubs etc.
You can do as many classes in a month as you like, capped at three per studio. So if you fancy doing yoga every damn day, you would go to a number of different studios, visiting each a maximum of three times within the month. But really the beauty of it is mixing up your fitness a bit and doing different things.
In my first fortnight, I have done 5 sessions at 4 venues, have loads more that I want to do before the month is up, and I’m having a blast!
First up was a visit to 38XFitness in Manly for an Afterburn class. Such an intense sweat session and I loved it so much that I wrote about it that night and went back 4 days later for more! And I have another class booked in again tomorrow. Safe to say I pretty much love that sweet, exhausting afterburn feeling. Call me crazy but (once it’s over, haha) it feels so good!
I also went to my very first yoga class outside of my weekly practice at my CrossFit gym. Yoga Collective in Manly is a teacher-run community yoga centre, offering a huge range of yoga classes, meditation, workshops… and the most delicious home-made Brazilian chocolates I might add.
My step-daughter already goes here, so it was a great place for me to start a new part of my yoga journey and I booked in for a Saturday afternoon Yin class (new for us both) before we met the boys for dinner.
In Yin, you hold poses for a long time, at least 5 minutes, so it’s less of a ‘flow’ and more of a stretch into the deep fascia tissues that protect our internal organs. The class is gentle and intense at the same time, and you’ll soon discover where your super tight spots are (oh my QUAD!). We left feeling really calm yet energised. Great stuff.
Next up was a Spin class like no other, at Scenic Cycle in the City, a state-of-the-art cycle studio with the latest bikes, including a bank of ones at the back that allow you to track your power output (and progress over time), and two massive cinema screens at the front of the room that guide you through a virtual tour. The day that I went, it was Queenstown in New Zealand. Never been in real life, loved it, even virtually.
And get this, yesterday I hired a bike in Manly and rode with my 7 year old son to Shelly Beach for icy poles, before cycling back to Queenscliff (via the playground). Manly Bike Tours are on ClassPass’ list and you can reserve a cruiser or hybrid for a 2 hour slot. Wah, it was so much fun! Can’t wait to do it again.
Next on my list? I want to try mat pilates and reformer. And kayaking. Aerial yoga. A boxing class perhaps… So many classes, so little time!
Want to join in on the fun? Check out ClassPass website for more info, and maybe I’ll meet you at the barre.
