The Nike NTC 2016 global tour is a fitness phenomenon gaining massive momentum. This year the tour, along with the whirlwind of hype, positive energy and fist pumping, is visiting no less than 20 cities around the world and, woop woop, I got to go to the Sydney event.
OMG I was so pumped because last year, the inaugural #NTCSyd event was so much fun, the smiles were infectious and the sweat flowed. FOMO had gotten the better of so many of my friends after seeing my photos from last year’s event that this year, my squad was sitting at around 20 women. So you can imagine the laughter, the chit chat, and the missed turnings in the car on the way there (too busy talking)…
The event was held outside this year, at Darling Island Wharf (thank goodness for the sunshine) which brought a very different vibe from last year’s high-octane indoor extravaganza.
Because it was so much more spread out and all outdoors, it felt a lot more chilled, like a weekend-long festival as opposed to an intense rock concert. We sat on the grass for picnics, took shade on a bench for catch ups with insta buddies and strolled along the wharf in between workouts… So a very different energy, but tons of female fun none-the-less.
Like last year, there were photo-ops a plenty for all the insta generation to unleash their hashtags on #guiltyascharged 😉
Like last year, there were temporary tattoos, hair braiding, massages, nail bars, Nike shopping, insta photo printing and yummy food samples.
Like last year, the workouts were awesome, lead by two of the world’s greatest trainers and uber fitspos Kirsty Godso and Marie Purvis along with local handpicked Aussie legends like Bec Wilcock, Steph B, Stefanie Turner and Phoebe Di Tommaso. Specialist cycle, running and boxing coaches had also been brought in for the day. Yes, we were in good hands.
And like last year, everywhere the eye could see were happy, happy, chatty women, of all ages and abilities, dressed in the same singlets and sharing the same love and joy of all things fitness and fun.
New additions to the NTC party were the GIF stations – oh the giggles we had with these! Little GIF videos of you and your girl gang busting out shapes and silly faces sent straight to your phone. Genius.
There were also more workout options – I did a little run around a pretty part of Sydney Harbour that I’d never been to before, and will never forget.
And let’s not forget this venue also had somewhere super handy for a glass of champers afterwards 😉
My favourite workout was, again, the Spin Class (lead by Bec and the incredible instructors from Vicious Cycle). Man, I love my Spin. So. Much. Fun.
There were about 200 spin bikes, and we all had cordless headphones to get the music and instructors streamed straight into our souls haha. A cycling silent disco. Epic.
What a way to spend a Saturday with your girlfriends.
If you missed out this year, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for details of next year’s event, because you know what Nike do – they just keep making everything bigger and better.
In the meantime, check out the NTC App, or register for the Nike Run Club Victory Tour Half Marathon (Sydney)… if you’ve ever done the Nike She Runs race, you know you’ll be in for a treat with this one…
Well done, Nike, love your work. See you again next year. x
