Level 5 of the Pitt Street Mall Westfield does not automatically spring to mind if you’re looking for a bit of time-out from the cray cray that is Sydney’s CBD.
Yet amongst the hustle and bustle of what could be Australia’s busiest food court, if you look closely in the corner, you will find YogaBar.
And when you find it, you may never want to leave. Because once you’re inside, you certainly feel far from the madding crowd. Light, airy and about as serene as a shopping centre can get, you’ll be transported away from your day job and into yourself.
There are heaps of classes to choose from – yoga of all types, barre, pilates… I took a Level 1 Yoga/Meditation class on a Thursday lunchtime.
What I loved about the class was the feeling of inclusiveness. It was very welcoming and the attendees were a mixed bunch beginning their yoga journey. Our instructor made sure we really understood the correct positioning of each pose, and clearly described how we should be moving our bodies to get the best result.
I love classes like this, a kind of ‘back to basics’. Perfect for a beginner, someone returning to yoga or someone who’s done a bit of it but is not hugely confident in their practice (and maybe a bit unco – me!).
There was just the right balance of comfort and challenge. Finishing off with a meditation totally sets you up for an afternoon of clarity as you head back to work with a calm mind along with a refreshed body.
There are even a few classes at the weekend if you live nearby or if you’re popping in to the city to shop. Take a bit of time out from retail therapy and get some yoga therapy instead!
Shop and eat like a yogi
Talking of retail therapy… YogaBar also has a pretty gorgeous activewear store stocking many of my fave brands like Dharma Bums, Vie Active, First Base, lululemon, Nimble and We Are Handsome. It’s a great space to browse and try on some of that gorgeous gear.
Lucky there’s a healthy cafe on site too, because yoga makes me hungry! Will & Co coffee, kombucha, Venus Wholefoods salads, acai bowls, smoothies, fruit and raw treats galore, this cafe is a destination in itself.
All the staff (at the front desk and in the cafe) were super friendly – there’s nothing like a smiling face to greet you in a new place, is there, to make you feel at home?
Fancy a bit of cardio or weights too?
Finally, If you’re up for a bit of gym time, there’s a Fit n Fast gym on site that your YogaBar membership allows you access to. So, pretty much all bases covered, right?
In fact, if you take up a membership at YogaBar in Westfield, you’re actually joining all of their 5 locations around Sydney (including more in the City, plus Bondi and Five Dock), AND 18 Fit n Fast gym locations.
Alternatively, if you have a ClassPass, they’re on there too. So go try out a class, grab something yummy to eat, and pick up some new tights 😉
And for an hour or so, you’ll totally forget you’re in Pitt St Mall.
